40B Doesn’t Work for Young Families

We make an ok living. We don’t have a lot of the extras that others have, but we’ve been married five years and we’re happy. All we want is a home to raise our children in, but housing is just so expensive here.

There is absolutely no way that we can get a decent place on my salary alone. I make more than what 40B, allows but not enough to be able to afford the mortgage on a 40B unit. The reality is that we can’t afford something unless my wife goes back to work. But then it becomes a matter of child-care costs and working yourself to the bone just to get by. It doesn’t seem fair.
