40B Doest Work for Young CouplesWe’re both teachers; with two incomes we make just over the threshold to qualify for 40B, but the reality is that housing is far too expensive for us even with two paychecks. We can’t even afford to live in the town we both teach in! We can’t even afford to live in the town we both teach in!![]() Our co-worker is in a similar situation. After renting for awhile, she and her husband wanted to move into a house. Their income is low enough to qualify for affordable housing, but because she has student loans from grad school, they were disqualified from eligibility. People like us are forced to commute long distances because we cannot afford to live in the towns we work in. The commute only strains our budget further. With so little truly affordable housing out there, we feel like we’ve been totally forgotten by the state. Unfortunately, it appears that many others are like us and Chapter 40B isn’t producing the housing we need.
