40B Doesn't Work for Students

I come from a low-income background and was the first one ever to go to college in my family. Graduating was the proudest accomplishment of my life. I took night classes to earn my degree because I needed to work full-time during the day to support myself. I still have a large amount of loans to pay off, because I didn't have help paying for school.

I've worked so hard to get ahead and still can't seem to catch a break in the 'real world'.

I thought I finally had caught my break when I found a 40B apartment that I thought was affordable. They limit my income to $30,000 a year but still expect me to pay $1,000 per month on the place! So am I supposed to live there and just not eat? Better housing assistance would go a long way to helping me survive financially. All I want is a system that offers me a fair deal. I've worked so hard to get ahead and still can't seem to catch a break in the “real world”.
