40B Doesn't Work for Split-Families

I just got divorced and my income isn't enough to afford a place on my own. Before, we could get by with our two incomes to pay rent. Now it's hard to find a new place that is affordable for me that is also close to my kids. I don't want to be far away from them, but my options are limited.

I found an apartment in a 40B development but I can't afford the rent on their "affordable" units. I had to go talk to the housing authority to see if I could get a Section 8 voucher which will help pay the rent. Something has to be wrong when I have to go collect from another program to afford living in a 40B “affordable” apartment!
