40B Doesn’t Work for Senior Citizens

My husband died a few years ago and I can’t afford to pay my rent. I don’t have much of a nest egg, but the state must think it’s big enough. I try to get by on social security but things are just so expensive! My income is $35,000, which should mean that I qualify for a 40B affordable unit, but I don’t qualify for a one bedroom 40B condo because I don’t make the almost $50,000 required for their mortgage.

Their standards might make sense to them, but they surely don’t work for people like me. I think our tax money could be spent more efficiently. I’ve read about other housing programs that work better but the state doesn’t have adequate funding for them. Yet it seems I’m always reading about millions being given for 40B projects that aren’t helping people like me and end up doing more harm than good.
