People & StoriesOur organization is a true grass roots effort. Our financial supporters, our volunteers and our activists are everyday, regular residents of Massachusetts and they come from all walks of life and all political persuasions. They are teachers, firefighters, and police. They are young college graduates, single parents, senior citizens, young families, first time homebuyers, affordable housing advocates, and more. Some are here because they recognize that our current affordable housing system has failed, leaving Massachusetts ranked as the 3rd most expensive state in the country. Other members are staunch environmentalists who believe we can create more affordable housing through redevelopment and without building on wetlands or wildlife habitat, without destroying open space, and without the many other negative environmental impacts of Chapter 40B. Still others are more fiscally concerned, upset about how Chapter 40B increases the price of land and forces many towns to propose local overrides to pay for the additional municipal services. But wherever our supporters come from, they all have one thing in common: they recognize that Chapter 40B is a broken, ineffective system and that it needs to be repealed.
